Shropshire Women in Dairy – Evolving Through Adversity

June 24 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm

All are invited to join Women In Dairy Shropshire for our next discussion group as we cover the story of Hilley Farm in Shropshire and their bold transition to dairy.

In 2022, despite their suckler herd performing in the top 25% for gross margin, the Jones family recognised the need for change to secure the farm’s future. Through meticulous long-term planning and business projections, Annie Jones and her family made the confident leap to a 390-cow, spring block-calving dairy herd.

The result? A far more resilient, highly profitable tenanted business that now successfully supports three families and has boosted their gross margin.

📊 Why Finances Matter to the Whole Team

Farm finances aren’t just a task for the farm manager—understanding the numbers is of importance to everyone working on the farm. From herd managers to tractor drivers, every daily decision on a dairy unit has a financial ripple effect. When the entire team understands the “why” behind the figures, it builds a stronger, more collaborative workplace where everyone is able to drive efficiency, spot waste, and contribute to the farm’s ultimate success.
Led by Sarah-Lea of P&L AgriConsulting, we will break down the roadmap behind this successful transition, focusing on how businesses can evolve through adversity.

Our discussion will cover:

  • Identifying the Need for Change: Recognising when it’s time to pivot, even when current operations seem successful.
  • Research & Development: Exploring new systems, visiting other units, assessing infrastructure needs, and gathering the right data before taking the plunge.
  • Financial Forecasting: Building the confidence to transition through robust, long-term business projections.
  • Financial Monitoring: Keeping a finger on the pulse and tracking performance effectively.
  • Continued Reviews & Adaptation: Staying agile and adapting plans as the business moves forwardWhether you are looking to get your whole team more engaged with the business figures or considering a major shift in your farm’s direction, this session will offer invaluable, practical insights into the power of budgeting and resilience.

Booking is essential to ensure correct catering levels. Please either respond to this event, message via Facebook, drop an email to wid.shropshire@gmail.com or message me on 07496 472094.
