The RABDF is saddened to hear of the deaths of honorary RABDF member Peel Holroyd and the 2018 recipient of the Princess Royal Award Barry Wilson, both of whom passed away in December.
Barry died aged 83 on Christmas Day at his home in France after a lengthy and successful career as a journalist covering the UK and global dairy industry.
He was involved in the dairy sector for almost half a century, writing and publishing the Dairy Industry Newsletter as well as establishing British Dairying magazine. In 2018 he received the Princess Royal Award for his services as a commemorator for the British dairy industry.
Peel Holroyd died on 21 December following an illness. He spent his lifetime working in agriculture across academia, industry and as a poultry industry consultant and became an honorary RABDF member in 1995.
Peel played a leading role in introducing standards on the farms supplying Marks & Spencer. Although it was not universally popular, his leadership paved the way for the introduction of farm assurance schemes such as Red Tractor.
