Writtle University College is surrounded by Essex countryside just a few steps from the Writtle village, two miles from Chelmsford city centre and only 35-minute train journey from London. With a direct train line from Chelmsford to London Liverpool Street, the campus offers a unique university experience to study, socialise and explore.
On the Writtle campus you will find typical University facilities, such as library, labs, restaurant, gym or a bar, but you will also have access to additional resources located around the estate. Amongst others, Writtle farm is a house to a commercial pig unit, cattle and sheep, these resources are also being used by the students for their arable and animal-based projects throughout their degree.
BSc (Hons) Agriculture and BSc (Hons) Agriculture (Livestock Technology)
Agriculture degree integrate aspects of arable and livestock farming, students will be able to study various aspects of farm business management, livestock and crop production, as well as apply this knowledge to the farm-related projects. Agriculture students interested in livestock production, will be able to choose additional modules shared with the Animal Science and Animal Management students. Here the pressure will be put more on the aspects of livestock production and precision livestock farming to meet the shifting industry demands towards sustainable food production.

This course aims to explore the importance of management strategies within the animal industry. Students will have the opportunity to explore the animals from inside-out and to study the management practices necessary to maintain high animal welfare. The main concepts include animal health and disease, reproduction and breeding, as well as nutrition and behaviour. Animal Management students interested in livestock production, will be able to study livestock specialist modules shared with the Animal Science and Agriculture students. The attention will be on the aspects of livestock production and precision livestock farming to meet the shifting industry demands towards sustainable food production.
