HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh

HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh was not only a keen conservationist but passionate about rural life. He was involved with the Royal Association of British Dairy Farmers for many years, starting with his presidency of the organisation in 1965, going on to serve the title again in 1973 and 1974.

To commemorate his presidency the RABDF set up the Prince Philip award – presented for the most practical, relevant and best-presented technical demonstration/exhibit, initially at the Dairy Event. As the event evolved, the award remained, being presented at the Livestock Event. It is now called the Royal Innovation Award and is presented, based on the same initial criteria, to an exhibiting company at Dairy-Tech. When the Duke stepped back from royal duties, the presentation of the award at Buckingham Palace was handed over to HRH The Princess Royal, the family member representing the RABDF’s Princess Royal Award.

Winners of the award were announced at the event and then presented with their certificate at Buckingham Palace in a formal ceremony with Prince Philip.

Everyone at the RABDF would like to thank HRH The Prince Philip for his support of the organisation and the industry. His many years of service have made a huge difference to so many agricultural and rural sectors. Our thoughts are with Her Majesty The Queen and other members of the Royal Family at this difficult time.
